A day at ZOOM Erlebniswelt in Gelsenkirchen: three worlds, Alaska, Africa and Asia, and their animals.
ZOOM Erlebniswelt in Gelsenkirchen, in the Ruhr, is a zoo organised into three worlds: Alaska, Africa and Asia. Pupils travel from one continent to another and watch the animals in enclosures that recreate their landscapes. It is a chance to work in biology and geography on how species adapt to their environment, food chains and biodiversity protection. A worksheet prepared in class makes the visit more active. The trip suits pupils aged 6 to 15.
Programme
- Departure from your school at the agreed time.
- Coach journey with a 30-minute break after at most 3 hours of driving.
- Arrival at ZOOM Erlebniswelt in mid-morning.
- Zoo tickets at the school group rate (on request).
- Discovery of the Alaska, Africa and Asia worlds in small groups supervised by the teachers.
- Educational activity with a zoo guide (on request).
- Picnic in the park.
- Departure from the zoo in the late afternoon.
- Coach journey with a 30-minute break after at most 3 hours of driving.
- Return to school in the evening.

Good to know
- Identity card (Kids-ID for under-12s), parental consent to travel abroad and European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) for each pupil.
- Times adapted to your school; pupils are supervised by their teachers.
- The zoo is open all year round, with shorter hours in winter: to be checked; there is a lot of walking, so bring good shoes.
- A packed lunch, a water bottle and clothes suited to the weather are recommended.
