A day at Cologne Zoo, one of Germany’s oldest: the Hippodom, the rainforest, the elephants and the aquarium.

Founded in 1860, Cologne Zoo is one of the oldest zoos in Germany and lies less than two hours from Belgium. Pupils discover the Hippodom, which recreates an African landscape with hippos and crocodiles, the rainforest house, the elephant park and the aquarium. The visit is a chance to cover animal classification, habitats and the protection of endangered species in science lessons. An activity run by the zoo school can complete the day. The trip suits pupils aged 6 to 14.

Programme

  • Departure from your school at the agreed time.
  • Coach journey with a 30-minute break after at most 3 hours of driving.
  • Arrival at Cologne Zoo in mid-morning.
  • Zoo and aquarium tickets at the school group rate (on request).
  • Discovery of the zoo in small groups supervised by the teachers: the Hippodom, the rainforest house and the elephant park.
  • Educational activity with the zoo school (Zooschule) (on request).
  • Picnic in the park.
  • Departure from the zoo in mid-afternoon, with a photo stop at Cologne Cathedral if time allows.
  • Coach journey with a 30-minute break after at most 3 hours of driving.
  • Return to school in the evening.

Good to know

  • Identity card (Kids-ID for under-12s), parental consent to travel abroad and European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) for each pupil.
  • Times adapted to your school; pupils are supervised by their teachers.
  • The zoo is open all year round, with shorter hours in winter: to be checked.
  • A packed lunch, a water bottle, good shoes and clothes suited to the weather are recommended.

Cancellation and refund protection

Optional, to be taken when booking: you can cancel without giving a reason and get the base price of the trip back, provided your request reaches us at least 48 hours before departure for a day trip, 7 days before if admission tickets are included, 14 days before for a trip with overnight stays. Price: 7 % of the trip up to €1,000, 5 % from €1,001 to €2,500, 3.5 % above.
