A day in the Bergisches Land: the Wuppertal suspension railway, then Burg Castle and its traditional coffee and cake spread.

Opened in 1901, the Wuppertal suspension railway (Schwebebahn) still glides above the river Wupper today, a unique experience in the world. Your group boards for a comfortable ride through the city, with the option of the Kaiserwagen, the historic car in which Emperor Wilhelm II travelled. In the afternoon, the coach takes you to Schloss Burg in Solingen, the imposing rebuilt castle of the Counts of Berg, which houses a museum. The day ends with the Bergische Kaffeetafel, a generous regional spread of waffles, rice pudding and coffee served from the Dröppelminna, the traditional coffee pot. An original outing about two hours away.

  • Morning departure from the pick-up point of your choice.
  • Coach journey with breaks: our drivers drive for no more than 3 hours, then take a 30-minute break.
  • Arrival in Wuppertal in mid-morning.
  • Ride on the suspension railway above the Wupper; the coach meets the group at the end.
  • Ride in the Kaiserwagen, the historic imperial car of the suspension railway (on request).

  • Drive to Schloss Burg in Solingen (about 30 minutes).

  • Walking level: easy to moderate; a few steps at the suspension railway stations and at the castle. The Kaiserwagen runs on certain dates only, to be checked.

Cancellation and refund protection

Optional, to be taken when booking: you can cancel without giving a reason and get the base price of the trip back, provided your request reaches us at least 48 hours before departure for a day trip, 7 days before if admission tickets are included, 14 days before for a trip with overnight stays. Price: 7 % of the trip up to €1,000, 5 % from €1,001 to €2,500, 3.5 % above.
