A day at Vogelsang in the Eifel: understanding Nazi indoctrination in a former Ordensburg, then exploring the national park.
Built from 1934 above the Urft Lake, Vogelsang was one of the three “Ordensburgen” where the Nazi party trained its future leaders. After the war, the site was used for almost sixty years as a Belgian army camp before opening to the public. The exhibition “Bestimmung: Herrenmensch” explains, through documents and testimonies, how the regime attracted and indoctrinated young men, and the crimes this led to. In the afternoon, pupils explore Eifel National Park, where the forest is left to develop naturally. This outing is aimed at secondary school pupils, for history, citizenship and science lessons.
