5 days in the Veneto: Palladio's Vicenza, Villa La Rotonda, the bridge of Bassano del Grappa and Marostica's chessboard square.
Vicenza is the city of the architect Andrea Palladio, whose palaces and villas, listed by UNESCO, have inspired buildings all over the world. Your group explores the flat historic centre, the Basilica Palladiana and the Teatro Olimpico, with its stage set of streets in perspective, then the famous Villa La Rotonda on its hill. One day is devoted to the foothills of the Alps: Bassano del Grappa, its covered wooden bridge and its grappa distilleries, then Marostica, a small walled town whose main square is laid out like a chessboard. The route through Germany and over the Brenner, with a stopover night each way, keeps travel days reasonable. Two nights in the same 3-star hotel on half board, and free time on café terraces, complete a peaceful trip.
Programme
Day 1: Departure and overnight stopover (southern Germany)
- Morning departure from the place of your choice.
- Journey with regular breaks: our drivers drive for 3 hours at most, then take a 30-minute break.
- Late-afternoon arrival at the stopover hotel (southern Germany), dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: The Brenner and Vicenza
- Breakfast, then drive over the Brenner Pass and down the Adige valley, with regular breaks.
- Seated lunch on the way (on request).
- Arrival in Vicenza in the afternoon and check-in at the hotel for 2 nights.
- First stroll on Piazza dei Signori, facing the Basilica Palladiana.
- Dinner at the hotel.
Day 3: Palladio's Vicenza
- Guided tour of the centre: Basilica Palladiana, Corso Palladio and Teatro Olimpico (on request).
- Lunch of Vicenza specialities, such as baccalà alla vicentina (on request).
- In the afternoon, a short drive to Villa La Rotonda, visit of the villa and its park (on request).
- Stop at Villa Valmarana ai Nani and its frescoes by the Tiepolos (on request).
- Return to the hotel and dinner.
Day 4: Marostica, then journey to the stopover (southern Germany)
- Breakfast, then drive to Bassano del Grappa and walk on the Ponte degli Alpini, a covered wooden bridge designed by Palladio.
- Visit to a distillery and grappa tasting (on request).
- Stop in Marostica and its chessboard square, below the castle.
- Seated lunch on the way (on request).
- Return journey with regular breaks: our drivers drive for 3 hours at most, then take a 30-minute break.
- Late-afternoon arrival at the stopover hotel (southern Germany), dinner and overnight stay.
Day 5: Return to Belgium
- Breakfast, then return journey with regular breaks.
- Evening return to your home area.

- Valid identity card and European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) for each participant. Bring enough of your usual medication.
- Departure and return times adapted to your group's pick-up point; trip offered from April to October, dates to be checked each year. From 20 participants, price on quotation.
- Walking level: easy (short walks, some cobbled lanes); a meeting time at the coach is set each day with the driver. Wheelchair users or guests with reduced mobility: please tell us when booking.
- Currency: euro. Bring comfortable clothes for the journey, a hat and sun cream.
