4 days in Lombardy: Bergamo's upper town and Venetian walls, Lake Iseo and the wines of Franciacorta.
Bergamo is a city in two parts: the modern lower town and the Città Alta, perched on its hill and surrounded by Venetian walls listed by UNESCO. Your group rides up effortlessly by funicular, then explores Piazza Vecchia, the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore and the Colleoni Chapel on foot; the streets are cobbled and sometimes sloping, but distances are short. The next day a boat takes you across Lake Iseo to Monte Isola, a large car-free island where you can stroll along the water. Neighbouring Franciacorta, the land of sparkling wines, is perfect for a tasting before the journey home. This short trip includes a stopover night in Switzerland on the way out and back, for reasonable travel days.
Programme
Day 1: Departure and overnight stopover (central Switzerland)
- Morning departure from the place of your choice.
- Journey with regular breaks: our drivers drive for 3 hours at most, then take a 30-minute break.
- Late-afternoon arrival at the stopover hotel (central Switzerland), dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: The Gotthard and Bergamo's Città Alta
- Breakfast, then drive through the Gotthard tunnel and Ticino, with regular breaks.
- Arrival in Bergamo in the early afternoon and check-in at the hotel.
- Funicular ride up to the Città Alta.
- Guided tour of the upper town: Piazza Vecchia, Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore and Colleoni Chapel (on request).
- Free time on the Venetian walls, then dinner at the hotel.
Day 3: Lake Iseo and Franciacorta, then journey to the stopover (central Switzerland)
- Breakfast, then a short drive to Lake Iseo.
- Boat crossing to Monte Isola and walk along the shore (on request).
- Lunch and wine tasting at a Franciacorta estate (on request).
- Return journey with regular breaks: our drivers drive for 3 hours at most, then take a 30-minute break.
- Late-afternoon arrival at the stopover hotel (central Switzerland), dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4: Return to Belgium
- Breakfast, then return journey with regular breaks.
- Evening return to your home area.

Good to know
- Valid identity card and European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) for each participant. Bring enough of your usual medication.
- Departure and return times adapted to your group's pick-up point; trip offered from April to October, dates to be checked each year. From 20 participants, price on quotation.
- Walking level: moderate (sloping lanes and some steps in the old towns); every visit can be shortened, and a meeting time at the coach is set each day. Wheelchair users or guests with reduced mobility: please tell us when booking.
- Currency: euro in Italy, Swiss franc during the stopover nights in Switzerland. Bring comfortable clothes for the journey and sun cream.
