Five days in South Tyrol: Bolzano and Ötzi, the Renon by cable car, the gardens of Merano and the Great Dolomite Road.
South Tyrol, where both Italian and German are spoken, blends the Italian art of living with Tyrolean warmth at the foot of the UNESCO-listed Dolomites. In Bolzano, your group strolls under the arcades and can meet Ötzi, the Iceman more than 5,000 years old, at the archaeological museum. A cable car and a little mountain train then lead up to the Renon plateau, facing the peaks. Merano, a spa town with flowery promenades, offers the magnificent gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle. Finally, the Great Dolomite Road reveals Lake Carezza and the mountain passes, effortlessly, from the coach. One hotel in the Bolzano area for the whole stay and two drivers on the outward and return journeys.
Programme
Day 1: Journey to South Tyrol
- Early morning departure from the pick-up point of your choice, with two drivers on board.
- Route through Germany and Austria, then over the Brenner Pass.
- Regular breaks: our drivers drive for 3 hours at most, then take a 30-minute break.
- Arrival in the Bolzano area in the evening and check-in at the hotel for 4 nights.
- Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 2: Bolzano and the Renon plateau
- Breakfast at the hotel.
- Guided tour of Bolzano: Walther Square, the Arcades street and the fruit market (on request).
- Visit to the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology and Ötzi the Iceman (on request).
- In the afternoon, cable car up to the Renon, then a ride on the little Renon railway (on request).
- Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 3: Merano and its gardens
- Breakfast at the hotel.
- Drive to Merano (about 30 kilometres).
- Visit to the gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle (on request).
- Lunch in a restaurant in Merano (on request).
- Free time on the promenades along the Passer river and under the arcades.
- Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 4: The Great Dolomite Road
- Breakfast at the hotel.
- Coach excursion along the Great Dolomite Road, with a stop at Lake Carezza.
- Cable car up to Sass Pordoi for the panorama (on request).
- Lunch in a mountain hut or restaurant (on request).
- Return to the hotel in the late afternoon.
- Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 5: Return to Belgium
- Breakfast at the hotel.
- Morning departure with two drivers on board.
- Regular breaks: our drivers drive for 3 hours at most, then take a 30-minute break.
- Return to your region in the evening.
