A day in Vianden: a great restored medieval castle, the house where Victor Hugo stayed and the Our valley.

Perched above the Our valley, Vianden Castle is one of the largest Romanesque and Gothic fortified castles in Europe, restored after lying in ruins for a long time. Pupils discover life in the Middle Ages, from the knights’ halls to the kitchens and the chapel. Below, the Victor Hugo House recalls the stay of the exiled writer in 1871 and his drawings of the town. The chairlift and a walk through the lanes complete a day on a human scale. This day trip is particularly suitable for the middle and upper years of primary school and the first years of secondary, for history and French.

Good to know

  • Valid identity card (Kids-ID for children under 12), parental authorisation to travel abroad and European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) for each pupil.
  • Departure and return times adapted to your school; pupils are supervised by their accompanying teachers.
  • The chairlift runs in season (roughly from Easter to October); bring good shoes, the climb to the castle is steep.

Cancellation and refund protection

Optional, to be taken when booking: you can cancel without giving a reason and get the base price of the trip back, provided your request reaches us at least 48 hours before departure for a day trip, 7 days before if admission tickets are included, 14 days before for a trip with overnight stays. Price: 7 % of the trip up to €1,000, 5 % from €1,001 to €2,500, 3.5 % above.
