A day in the Grand Duchy’s capital: the Bock Casemates, the Chemin de la Corniche and the European quarter.
Once nicknamed the “Gibraltar of the North”, Luxembourg City has kept kilometres of tunnels cut into the rock from its fortress, the Bock Casemates. Pupils discover the UNESCO-listed old town and fortifications, the Chemin de la Corniche and the Alzette valley, then the institutions of a founding member of the European Union. The Dräi Eechelen Museum in Fort Thüngen explains a thousand years of fortress history with models. The Pfaffenthal panoramic lift spectacularly links the lower and upper town. This day trip suits pupils from the last years of primary school to secondary, for history, geography and European citizenship.
