A day of remembrance in northern Luxembourg: the Battle of the Bulge museum in Diekirch and The Family of Man in Clervaux.
In the winter of 1944-1945, northern Luxembourg, like the Belgian Ardennes, was the scene of the Battle of the Bulge. At the National Museum of Military History in Diekirch, reconstructed scenes, vehicles and everyday objects show the war as lived by soldiers and civilians. In Clervaux, the castle houses The Family of Man, a photographic exhibition assembled by Edward Steichen and inscribed on UNESCO’s Memory of the World register, a view of humanity in the aftermath of the war. Pupils thus move from conflict to peace and human rights. This day trip suits secondary school history, citizenship and art lessons.
