Two days in Utrecht: the Dom Tower, canals with wharf cellars, music boxes and the national railway museum.
Utrecht, a university city in the heart of the Netherlands, is ideal for a first trip abroad. Pupils climb the 465 steps of the Dom Tower, at 112 metres the tallest church tower in the country, and stroll along the Oudegracht with its old wharf cellars. Museum Speelklok introduces music boxes and mechanical organs, while the UNESCO-listed Rietveld Schröder House illustrates the De Stijl movement. The Spoorwegmuseum, housed in a former station, tells the story of the railway in a very lively way. This trip suits pupils from the last years of primary school to the start of secondary, for history, art and technology.
Programme
Day 1: Utrecht, city of the Dom
- Departure from your school by coach at the agreed time.
- Journey with a 30-minute break after at most 3 hours of driving (our drivers’ safety rule).
- Walk through the historic centre along the Oudegracht and its wharf cellars.
- Guided climb of the Dom Tower (on request)
- Visit of Museum Speelklok, the museum of mechanical musical instruments (on request)
- Dinner and overnight stay at the youth hostel or hotel.
Day 2: Railway Museum and return
- Breakfast at the accommodation.
- Visit of the Spoorwegmuseum, the Dutch railway museum (on request)
- Visit of the Rietveld Schröder House, in small groups (on request)
- Journey with a 30-minute break after at most 3 hours of driving (our drivers’ safety rule).
- Return to school in the evening.

Good to know
- Valid identity card (Kids-ID for children under 12), parental authorisation to travel abroad and European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) for each pupil.
- Departure and return times adapted to your school; pupils are supervised by their accompanying teachers.
- The Dom Tower can only be climbed on a guided tour in small groups; the Rietveld Schröder House only welcomes very small groups and must be booked well in advance.
