Two days in Delft and The Hague: blue Delftware, William of Orange, Vermeer and the institutions of peace.

In Delft, pupils discover Vermeer’s town, the tomb of William of Orange in the Nieuwe Kerk and the Prinsenhof, where he was assassinated in 1584. The Hague, seat of the Dutch government and parliament, helps them understand democracy in a neighbouring country and the role of international justice at the Peace Palace. At the Mauritshuis they look closely at Girl with a Pearl Earring and the View of Delft. The day ends by the North Sea in Scheveningen. This trip suits secondary school history, art and citizenship lessons.

Programme

Day 1: Delft, Vermeer’s town

  • Departure from your school by coach at the agreed time.
  • Journey with a 30-minute break after at most 3 hours of driving (our drivers’ safety rule).
  • Walk through the centre of Delft: Market Square, town hall and canals.
  • Visit of the Nieuwe Kerk and the tomb of William of Orange (on request)
  • Visit of the Prinsenhof museum (on request)
  • Delftware painting workshop at Royal Delft (on request)
  • Drive to The Hague.
  • Dinner and overnight stay at the youth hostel or hotel.

Day 2: The Hague and return

  • Breakfast at the accommodation.
  • Discovery of the Binnenhof area, the political heart of the Netherlands.
  • Visit of the Mauritshuis: Vermeer, Rembrandt and the Golden Age masters (on request)
  • Visit of the Peace Palace visitor centre (on request)
  • Free time on the beach and promenade of Scheveningen.
  • Journey with a 30-minute break after at most 3 hours of driving (our drivers’ safety rule).
  • Return to school in the evening.

Good to know

  • Valid identity card (Kids-ID for children under 12), parental authorisation to travel abroad and European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) for each pupil.
  • Departure and return times adapted to your school; pupils are supervised by their accompanying teachers.
  • The Binnenhof is being renovated for several years: parliament visits take place in its temporary premises and must be checked; a windproof jacket is useful on the beach.

Cancellation and refund protection

Optional, to be taken when booking: you can cancel without giving a reason and get the base price of the trip back, provided your request reaches us at least 48 hours before departure for a day trip, 7 days before if admission tickets are included, 14 days before for a trip with overnight stays. Price: 7 % of the trip up to €1,000, 5 % from €1,001 to €2,500, 3.5 % above.
