Five days for Toruń, Copernicus’s Gothic town listed by UNESCO, its gingerbread and the small town of Chełmno.
Spared by the war, Toruń has kept its medieval red-brick centre intact on the banks of the Vistula, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Nicolaus Copernicus was born here in 1473, and his birthplace tells the story of the astronomer’s life. The town is also Poland’s gingerbread capital: your group can shape and decorate their own in a living museum, following time-honoured methods. Some forty kilometres away, Chełmno, a small hilltop town surrounded by ramparts, keeps relics of St Valentine in its church. An overnight stop near Berlin on the way out and back avoids overly long days on the road, and a half-board hotel close to the Old Town in Toruń can be arranged (on request).
Programme
Day 1: Journey into Germany
- Morning departure from the place of your choice.
- Regular breaks along the way: our drivers drive for 3 hours at most, then take a 30-minute break.
- Drive to eastern Germany via Hanover, arriving in the Berlin area in the late afternoon.
- Overnight stop along the way, with dinner at the hotel.
Day 2: Arrival in Toruń
- Breakfast at the hotel.
- Drive to Toruń, with a lunch break on the way, and check-in at the hotel for 2 nights.
- First evening stroll along the Vistula boulevard, facing the Old Town.
- Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 3: Toruń and Chełmno
- Breakfast at the hotel.
- Guided tour of the Old Town: town hall, Copernicus House and the Leaning Tower (on request).
- Gingerbread workshop at the Living Gingerbread Museum (on request).
- Lunch booked at a restaurant (on request).
- In the afternoon, coach excursion to Chełmno: ramparts, Market Square and the church holding relics of St Valentine.
- Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 4: Journey back into Germany
- Breakfast at the hotel.
- Free morning in Toruń for last gingerbread purchases.
- Departure westwards in the late morning and overnight stop in the Berlin area, with dinner at the hotel.
- Regular breaks along the way: our drivers drive for 3 hours at most, then take a 30-minute break.
Day 5: Return to Belgium
- Breakfast, then the last leg of the journey to Belgium.
- Regular breaks along the way: our drivers drive for 3 hours at most, then take a 30-minute break.
- Arrival back in your region in the evening.

- Walking level: easy to moderate (cobbles, a few sloping streets in Chełmno); trip possible from April to October.
