Seven days on Texel, the largest Wadden island: beaches, villages, Ecomare seals, a boat trip and Alkmaar.
Texel, the largest of the Wadden Islands, is reached in about twenty minutes by ferry from Den Helder, coach included. Your group stays six nights in the same hotel, at the island’s pace: vast beaches, dunes, sheep meadows and villages of low houses. The island tour is made by coach, with stops in Den Burg, at the harbour of Oudeschild and at the red lighthouse in the north. At the Ecomare centre you can watch seals rescued along the coast, and a boat trip lets you see them on the sandbanks of the Wadden Sea, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. An excursion to the mainland leads to Alkmaar and its cheese market, while a whole day remains free for rest.
Programme
Day 1: Journey to Texel
- Departure in the morning from the place of your choice.
- Safety: our drivers drive for 3 hours at most, then take a 30-minute break.
- Drive to Den Helder, with regular breaks.
- Ferry crossing to Texel (about 20 minutes), coach on board.
- Check-in at the hotel for 6 nights and dinner.
Day 2: Island tour
- Coach tour of the island: Den Burg, dunes and villages.
- Stop at the harbour of Oudeschild.
- Visit to the Kaap Skil maritime museum (on request).
- Lunch in a restaurant on the island (on request).
- Stop at the De Cocksdorp lighthouse at the northern tip, then back to the hotel.
Day 3: Ecomare and De Koog
- Visit to Ecomare, seal sanctuary and nature museum (on request).
- Free afternoon in De Koog, the island’s seaside resort.
- Dinner at the hotel.
Day 4: Free day on Texel
- Free day on the beach or in the villages (driver’s rest day).
- Electric bike hire for the more active (on request).
- Dinner at the hotel.
Day 5: Alkmaar and its cheese market
- Ferry to Den Helder, then drive to Alkmaar (about 45 minutes).
- Traditional cheese market on the Waagplein, on Friday mornings in season.
- Lunch in a restaurant in Alkmaar (on request).
- Boat trip on the canals of Alkmaar (on request).
- Return to Texel by ferry in the late afternoon.
Day 6: Seals and the Wadden Sea
- Free morning on the island.
- Boat trip from Oudeschild to watch the seals on the sandbanks (on request).
- Farewell dinner at the hotel.
Day 7: Return to Belgium
- Breakfast and ferry to Den Helder.
- Return journey, with regular breaks.
- Return in the late afternoon or early evening to your region.

- A valid identity card is required and a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) is recommended.
- Departure and return times are adapted to your group’s pick-up point; price on quotation, from 20 participants.
- Walking level: easy (short walks on flat ground, frequent breaks).
- Stay possible from April to October; the Alkmaar cheese market takes place on Friday mornings from about April to September: the stay is planned to include it.
