Five days in Egmond aan Zee: beach and lighthouse, the artists’ village of Bergen, the Zuiderzee Museum and the cheese of Alkmaar.
Egmond aan Zee is a family seaside resort in North Holland, with a wide beach, protected dunes and the J.C.J. van Speijk lighthouse watching over the village. Your group stays four nights in a hotel near the sea, on half board, and each day combines a discovery with free time. Bergen, an artists’ village surrounded by woods, gave its name to a painting movement, the Bergen School. In Enkhuizen, the Zuiderzee Museum brings the fishing villages of the past back to life, and Alkmaar rounds off the stay with its canals and cheese tradition. Journeys remain short and visits take place on flat ground.
Programme
Day 1: Journey to North Holland
- Morning departure from the place of your choice.
- Coffee break on the way: our drivers drive for 3 hours at most, then take a 30-minute break.
- Group lunch on the way (on request).
- Arrival in Egmond aan Zee in the afternoon and check-in at the hotel near the sea for 4 nights.
- Dinner at the hotel.
Day 2: Egmond, the beach and the abbey
- Breakfast at the hotel.
- Walk along the promenade to the J.C.J. van Speijk lighthouse (exterior view).
- Free morning on the beach.
- Afternoon: visit of the Benedictine Abbey of Egmond in Egmond-Binnen (on request).
- Dinner at the hotel.
Day 3: Bergen, the artists’ village
- Breakfast at the hotel, then a short drive to Bergen.
- Walk through the centre of Bergen and its galleries.
- Visit of Museum Kranenburgh, devoted to the Bergen School (on request).
- Group lunch in Bergen (on request).
- Back to Egmond and a free late afternoon.
- Dinner at the hotel.
Day 4: The Zuiderzee Museum in Enkhuizen
- Breakfast at the hotel, then drive to Enkhuizen (about one hour).
- Visit of the Zuiderzee Museum and its open-air village (on request).
- Group lunch at the museum or in Enkhuizen (on request).
- Back to Egmond in the late afternoon, dinner at the hotel.
Day 5: Alkmaar and return
- Breakfast at the hotel, then a short drive to Alkmaar.
- Walk along the canals and on the weigh house square; on Fridays in season, cheese market.
- Group lunch in Alkmaar (on request).
- Return journey in the early afternoon.
- Return to your region in the evening.

Good to know

- Times adapted to your group's pick-up point; groups from 20 participants, on the date of your choice, price on quotation. Walking level: easy, flat ground; the Zuiderzee Museum involves a little more walking, with benches; wheelchair users: please tell us when booking.
- Pleasant stay from April to October; the Alkmaar cheese market takes place on Friday mornings from about April to September (to be checked each year).
