A 4-day remembrance trip: the Terezín ghetto and Small Fortress, the martyred village of Lidice and an afternoon in Prague.
This trip explores the Second World War through two major memorial sites in the Czech Republic. In Terezín, a garrison town founded at the end of the 18th century, the Nazis set up a ghetto through which tens of thousands of Jews passed, while the Small Fortress served as a Gestapo prison. In Lidice, a village razed in June 1942 in reprisal for the assassination of Reinhard Heydrich, the memorial and the monument to the child victims of the war invite reflection. In the afternoon in Prague, the Pinkas Synagogue displays drawings by the children of the Terezín ghetto. The programme suits history and citizenship lessons in the upper years of secondary school and is best prepared in class.
Programme
Day 1: Journey to northern Bohemia
- Departure from your school at the agreed time.
- Drive to northern Bohemia with two drivers on board; a break of at least 30 minutes every 3 hours of driving.
- Arrival in the late afternoon, check-in at the accommodation, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Terezín, ghetto and Small Fortress
- Breakfast at the accommodation.
- Guided tour of the Terezín Memorial: Small Fortress, Ghetto Museum and National Cemetery (on request).
- Educational workshop at the Terezín Memorial (on request).
- Discussion time with the teachers at the end of the day.
- Dinner and overnight stay at the accommodation.
Day 3: Lidice and Prague
- Breakfast at the accommodation.
- Visit to the Lidice Memorial: museum, site of the village destroyed in 1942 and monument to the child victims of the war (on request).
- Afternoon in Prague: Old Town Square, the astronomical clock and Charles Bridge.
- Visit to the Pinkas Synagogue and the drawings of the children of Terezín (Jewish Museum in Prague) (on request).
- Dinner and overnight stay at the accommodation.
Day 4: Return to Belgium
- Breakfast at the accommodation.
- Return journey with two drivers on board and regular breaks (at least 30 minutes every 3 hours).
- Arrival back at school in the evening.

Good to know
- Identity card (Kids-ID for children under 12) and parental consent to travel abroad are required for every pupil.
- Bring the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC); currency: Czech koruna (CZK), euros are not accepted everywhere.
- Recommended from age 14; guided tours and workshops must be booked several months ahead; appropriate dress and respectful behaviour at memorial sites.
- Times are adapted to your school; pupils remain supervised by their teachers, while our drivers ensure safe transport.
