Three days in West Bohemia: the hot springs and colonnades of Karlovy Vary, Bohemian glass and the medieval castle of Loket.
Karlovy Vary, the most famous Czech spa town, is one of the Great Spa Towns of Europe listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Pupils observe the geyser of the Vřídlo spring, whose water gushes out at over 70 °C, and taste the mineral water of the different springs along the colonnades. It is a very concrete way to approach geology, volcanism and water chemistry. The Moser glassworks reveals the craft of Bohemian glass, while Loket Castle, perched in a bend of the Ohře river, takes the class back to the Middle Ages. This stay suits pupils from the last years of primary school to secondary school, for science, geography and history lessons.
Programme
Day 1: Journey to Karlovy Vary
- Departure from your school at the agreed time.
- Drive to Karlovy Vary with two drivers on board; a break of at least 30 minutes every 3 hours of driving.
- Evening walk along the Teplá river.
- Dinner and overnight stay at the accommodation.
Day 2: Springs, colonnades and Bohemian glass
- Breakfast at the accommodation.
- Guided tour of the colonnades and hot springs, including the Vřídlo geyser (on request).
- Funicular ride up to the Diana lookout tower (on request).
- Visit to the Moser glassworks visitor centre (on request).
- Dinner and overnight stay at the accommodation.
Day 3: Loket Castle and return
- Breakfast at the accommodation.
- Visit to Loket Castle (on request).
- Return journey with two drivers on board and regular breaks (at least 30 minutes every 3 hours).
- Arrival back at school in the evening.

Good to know
- Identity card (Kids-ID for children under 12) and parental consent to travel abroad are required for every pupil.
- Bring the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC); currency: Czech koruna (CZK), euros are not accepted everywhere.
- Possible all year round; the spring water is tasted with a small cup sold locally; bring good shoes.
- Times are adapted to your school; pupils remain supervised by their teachers, while our drivers ensure safe transport.
