Six days in South Bohemia: Šumava’s bogs and the source of the Vltava, the Lipno treetop walk and UNESCO-listed Český Krumlov.

The Bohemian Forest (Šumava), on the German and Austrian borders, is the largest Czech national park. Pupils discover high-altitude peat bogs from the boardwalks of Jezerní slať, then the source of the Vltava, the river that later flows through Český Krumlov and Prague. On the shore of the Lipno reservoir, the treetop walk lets them observe the forest from the inside and study the forest ecosystem. The tour ends in Český Krumlov, a UNESCO-listed medieval town nestled in a bend of the Vltava. This trip suits pupils from the last years of primary school to secondary school, for science, geography and environmental education.

Programme

Day 1: Journey to the Bohemian Forest

  • Departure from your school at the agreed time.
  • Drive to the Bohemian Forest (Šumava) with two drivers on board; a break of at least 30 minutes every 3 hours of driving.
  • Arrival in the late afternoon, check-in at the accommodation, dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Lake Lipno and the treetops

  • Breakfast at the accommodation.
  • Lipno Treetop Walk (on request).
  • Walk along Lake Lipno and a look at the dam on the Vltava.
  • Dinner and overnight stay at the accommodation.

Day 3: Bogs and the source of the Vltava

  • Breakfast at the accommodation.
  • Boardwalk trail and observation tower at the Jezerní slať peat bog.
  • Walk to the source of the Vltava.
  • Hike with a Šumava National Park guide (on request).
  • Dinner and overnight stay at the accommodation.

Day 4: A nature day on foot

  • Breakfast at the accommodation.
  • A day on foot: the coach stays parked (drivers’ rest day).
  • Hike and orienteering games in the forest around the accommodation.
  • Dinner and overnight stay at the accommodation.

Day 5: Český Krumlov

  • Breakfast at the accommodation.
  • Guided tour of Český Krumlov Castle and climb up the castle tower (on request).
  • Walk in the castle gardens and the lanes of the old town.
  • Dinner and overnight stay at the accommodation.

Day 6: Return to Belgium

  • Breakfast at the accommodation.
  • Return journey with two drivers on board and regular breaks (at least 30 minutes every 3 hours).
  • Arrival back at school in the evening.

Good to know

  • Identity card (Kids-ID for children under 12) and parental consent to travel abroad are required for every pupil.
  • Bring the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC); currency: Czech koruna (CZK), euros are not accepted everywhere.
  • Best from May to October; some areas of the national park are protected: stay on the trails; walking shoes, rain gear and tick protection.
  • Times are adapted to your school; pupils remain supervised by their teachers, while our drivers ensure safe transport.

Cancellation and refund protection

Optional, to be taken when booking: you can cancel without giving a reason and get the base price of the trip back, provided your request reaches us at least 48 hours before departure for a day trip, 7 days before if admission tickets are included, 14 days before for a trip with overnight stays. Price: 7 % of the trip up to €1,000, 5 % from €1,001 to €2,500, 3.5 % above.
