Eight days in Dalmatia: Diocletian’s Palace in Split, Trogir, Šibenik Cathedral, the Krka waterfalls and the Cetina canyon.
This tour of the Dalmatian coast brings nearly two thousand years of Adriatic history to life. In Split, pupils walk through the palace that the Roman emperor Diocletian had built around AD 300, now a lived-in neighbourhood, with its cathedral set in the former imperial mausoleum. Trogir, a small medieval town on its islet, and St James’s Cathedral in Šibenik, built entirely of stone, are both UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Krka National Park shows how the river shaped travertine waterfalls, and the ruins of Salona recall the Roman capital of Dalmatia. A day in Omiš, by the Cetina canyon, adds a sporty touch. The trip suits secondary pupils in history, Latin, science and geography.
