10 days in central Dalmatia: Diocletian’s Palace in Split, Trogir, Salona, Klis fortress and Sinj.
Split is a unique city: for centuries its people have lived within the walls of the palace that Emperor Diocletian had built by the sea around the year 300. Your group stays five nights in the Split area on half board, after two stopovers that divide the long journey into three reasonable days. Trogir, a small medieval town listed by UNESCO, opens the stay; then come the palace and cathedral of Split, the Roman ruins of Salona and Klis fortress, watching over the bay. A day in the hinterland leads to Sinj, home of the famous Alka knights’ tournament and a place of Marian pilgrimage. The pace stays peaceful, with a free day in the middle of the stay. The old towns are pedestrian and paved; Klis fortress, set high up, is for those who enjoy a climb.
