Rotterdam in one day: Europe's largest port by boat, bold architecture and the view from the Euromast.
Rotterdam is a real-life laboratory of geography and architecture. Destroyed by the bombing of 14 May 1940, its centre was rebuilt in a resolutely modern style, from Piet Blom's Cube Houses to the Markthal and the Erasmus Bridge. By boat, pupils sail past the quays of Europe's largest port and learn the role of containers, cranes and locks in world trade. From the Euromast, they read the city and the river like a map. The trip suits geography, history, economics and science lessons for secondary pupils aged 12 to 18.
