Following Operation Market Garden of September 1944: the Airborne Museum, Oosterbeek war cemetery and the bridge at Arnhem.
In September 1944, the Allies launched Operation Market Garden to cross the Rhine and end the war by Christmas; the Battle of Arnhem ended in failure. At the Airborne Museum Hartenstein in Oosterbeek, the former British headquarters, pupils relive the nine days of fighting through objects, testimonies and reconstructed scenes. At the Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery, they grasp the human cost of war and the importance of remembrance. The John Frost Bridge in central Arnhem recalls the 'bridge too far' the paratroopers could not hold. The trip suits history and citizenship lessons for pupils aged 14 to 18.
