A day in Amsterdam: Golden Age masters at the Rijksmuseum, a canal cruise and the memory of Anne Frank.
Amsterdam offers a condensed lesson in European history in a single day. At the Rijksmuseum, pupils discover the art of the Dutch Golden Age, from Rembrandt's Night Watch to paintings by Vermeer, and learn how this small republic became a global trading power. A cruise on the 17th-century canals, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, shows how a city was built on water. The visit to the Anne Frank House, where the young girl wrote her diary in hiding during the occupation, invites reflection on the persecution of the Jews and on human rights. The programme suits history, art and citizenship lessons for secondary pupils aged 14 to 18.
