7 days in the Eternal City: the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, the Vatican Museums, the Pantheon and the ancient city of Ostia.
Rome lets pupils see with their own eyes what they study in Latin and history lessons. At the Colosseum, the Roman Forum and on the Palatine, they trace political and everyday life in ancient Rome, before discovering the Pantheon, the Trevi Fountain and Piazza Navona. The Vatican Museums, with the Sistine Chapel painted by Michelangelo, and St Peter’s Basilica link the trip to the Renaissance and to European history. On the Capitoline Hill, the Capitoline Museums display the She-wolf, symbol of the city, in the palace where the Treaty of Rome was signed in 1957. At Ostia Antica, Rome’s ancient port, the streets, houses and baths give a very concrete picture of a Roman town. This trip is mainly aimed at secondary pupils, in Latin, history and European citizenship.
Programme
Day 1: Departure for Rome
- Departure from your school at the agreed time, in the evening.
- Overnight journey with two drivers taking turns: a 30-minute break at least every 3 hours of driving.
Day 2: Arrival in Rome
- Journey through Switzerland and northern Italy, with regular breaks.
- Arrival in Rome in the early afternoon.
- First walk: Piazza Venezia and a view of the Forum from the Capitoline Hill.
- Check-in at the accommodation and dinner.
Day 3: Ancient Rome
- Breakfast at the accommodation.
- Guided tour of the Colosseum, the Roman Forum and the Palatine (on request).
- In the afternoon, visit of the Capitoline Museums (on request).
- Return to the accommodation and dinner.
Day 4: The Vatican
- Breakfast at the accommodation.
- Guided tour of the Vatican Museums and the Sistine Chapel (on request).
- Visit of St Peter’s Basilica and St Peter’s Square.
- Walk along the Tiber to Castel Sant’Angelo.
- Return to the accommodation and dinner.
Day 5: Rome on foot
- Breakfast at the accommodation.
- A day on foot: the coach stays parked and the drivers rest.
- Walk from Piazza Navona to the Pantheon, then on to the Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps.
- Educational treasure hunt in the historic centre (on request).
- In the afternoon, discovery of the Trastevere district.
- Dinner at the accommodation.
Day 6: Ostia Antica and departure
- Breakfast at the accommodation.
- Drive to Ostia Antica.
- Guided tour of the archaeological site of Ostia Antica (on request).
- Departure for Belgium at the end of the day and overnight journey with two drivers, with regular 30-minute breaks.
Day 7: Return to Belgium
- Arrival back at school in the early afternoon.

Good to know
- Identity card (Kids-ID for children under 12), parental consent for travel abroad and European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) for every pupil.
- Times adapted to your school; pupils are supervised by their teachers; our drivers drive for 3 hours at most, then take a 30-minute break, day and night.
- Appropriate dress is required at the Vatican (shoulders and knees covered); the Colosseum and the Vatican Museums must be booked well in advance for groups.
