9 days in southern Italy: Pompeii, Herculaneum, the crater of Vesuvius and Naples, with stopovers in Rome and Florence.
This tour takes pupils to the foot of Vesuvius, where the eruption of AD 79 froze two Roman towns in time. In Pompeii and Herculaneum, they walk through streets, houses, shops and baths, then find frescoes and mosaics at the National Archaeological Museum of Naples. The climb towards the crater of Vesuvius is an opportunity to study volcanism and the monitoring of a volcano that is still active. The historic centre of Naples, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the Royal Palace of Caserta complete the programme. The trip stops in Rome on the way out and in Florence on the way back to break up the journey. It is aimed at secondary pupils, in Latin, history and earth sciences.
