Dutch Limburg along the Meuse: Roermond and its churches, Thorn the white village, the Arcen castle gardens and Venlo.
Very close to Belgium, the north of Dutch Limburg is easy to discover along the Meuse and its lakes. Roermond charms with St Christopher’s Cathedral, the Munsterkerk and the house of the architect Pierre Cuypers, a son of the town. Thorn, “the white village”, lines up its whitewashed houses around its former abbey church in total peace. The gardens of Arcen Castle offer lovely flowery walks, with accessible paths and benches for a rest. The trip ends in Venlo, a lively shopping town on the Meuse, before a relaxed journey home.
Programme
Day 1: Roermond
- Morning departure from the pick-up point of your choice; our drivers drive for no more than 3 hours, then take a 30-minute break.
- Coffee break on the way.
- Arrival in Roermond in the late morning.
- Seated lunch in the centre (on request).
- Guided tour of Roermond: St Christopher’s Cathedral, Munsterkerk and Cuypershuis (on request).
- Cruise on the Meuse lakes (Maasplassen) (on request).
- Check-in at the hotel, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Thorn and the Arcen gardens
- Breakfast at the hotel.
- Stroll through Thorn, the white village, around the former abbey church.
- Guided tour of the abbey church of Thorn (on request).
- Seated lunch (on request).
- Visit to the Arcen castle gardens (Kasteeltuinen Arcen) (on request).
- Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 3: Venlo and return
- Breakfast at the hotel.
- Free time in the centre of Venlo and on the Meuse quays.

- Return journey with regular breaks, arriving back in your region in the evening.
