Three days between the Rhine and the Neckar: Koblenz, Marksburg Castle, a cruise to the Loreley and Heidelberg.
The Upper Middle Rhine Valley, listed by UNESCO, is a landscape of cliffs, vineyards and castles. In Koblenz, pupils discover the Deutsches Eck at the confluence of the Rhine and the Moselle, and Ehrenbreitstein Fortress. Marksburg Castle, the only hilltop castle in the valley never to have been destroyed, brings medieval life to life, and a cruise leads to the Loreley rock and its legend. In Heidelberg, home to Germany’s oldest university, they visit the castle and the former students’ prison. This trip suits pupils from age 11 to secondary level, for history, geography and German.
