Five days in Berlin to understand the 20th century: the Wall, the Reichstag, the Brandenburg Gate, the GDR and Museum Island.
Berlin is an open-air history book. Pupils follow the line of the Wall at Bernauer Straße and the East Side Gallery, pass the Brandenburg Gate and Checkpoint Charlie, and discover everyday life in the GDR. The Topography of Terror and the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe address Nazism and the Holocaust in a sober way. The Reichstag’s glass dome is a good starting point to talk about democracy and German institutions. This trip is particularly suited to history and citizenship lessons for pupils aged 14 to 18.
