Four days in Saxony: Dresden’s baroque old town, the human body at the Hygiene Museum and the Bastei sandstone rocks.
Dresden, the “Florence on the Elbe”, has a powerful story to tell: destroyed by the bombing of February 1945, it rebuilt its Frauenkirche, reconsecrated in 2005. Pupils discover the Zwinger, the Semperoper and the Procession of Princes, a frieze more than 100 metres long made of Meissen porcelain tiles. The German Hygiene Museum presents the human body in an interactive way, a good link with science and biology lessons. In Saxon Switzerland, the Bastei and its sandstone rocks above the Elbe offer a day of nature and geology. This trip suits secondary pupils, for history, science and geography.
Programme
Day 1: Journey to Saxony
- Departure from your school at the agreed time.
- Coach journey with a 30-minute break after at most 3 hours of driving.
- Arrival in Dresden in the late afternoon or evening.
- Dinner and overnight stay at the accommodation.
Day 2: Dresden’s old town
- Breakfast at the accommodation.
- Walk through the old town: Frauenkirche, Zwinger, Semperoper, Procession of Princes and Brühl’s Terrace.
- Guided tour of the Frauenkirche (on request).
- Visit to the German Hygiene Museum (Deutsches Hygiene-Museum) with a workshop (on request).
- Dinner and overnight stay at the accommodation.
Day 3: Saxon Switzerland
- Breakfast at the accommodation.
- Drive to Saxon Switzerland National Park.
- Walk to the Bastei Bridge, with views over the Elbe valley.
- Visit to Königstein Fortress (on request).
- Dinner and overnight stay at the accommodation.
Day 4: Return to Belgium
- Breakfast at the accommodation.
- Journey home.
- Coach journey with a 30-minute break after at most 3 hours of driving.
- Return to school in the evening.

- 3 nights in a youth hostel or hotel, rooms for 3 to 8 pupils and separate rooms for the teachers

Good to know
- Identity card (Kids-ID for under-12s), parental consent to travel abroad and European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) for each pupil.
- Times adapted to your school; pupils are supervised by their teachers.
- The Bastei walk requires good shoes; stairs and rocky passages are walked under the teachers’ supervision.
