Lucerne's Chapel Bridge, the world's steepest cog railway up Mount Pilatus, a cruise on Lake Lucerne and the cradle of Switzerland.
In the heart of Switzerland, about six to seven hours’ drive away, Lucerne combines a medieval old town, covered wooden bridges and mountains plunging into Lake Lucerne. Pupils go up Mount Pilatus or the Rigi for a panorama over the Alps, sail to Brunnen and discover the origins of the Swiss Confederation in Schwyz. A neighbouring country that still feels a world away, ideal for a final-year trip combining nature and culture. The departure date and time are set with your school in the quote; the journey is made by day, with a 30-minute break every 3 hours of driving, and the coach stays with the group throughout the stay.

Good to know
- Valid identity card or passport (an identity card is enough for Switzerland), signed parental consent form for each pupil under 18 and European Health Insurance Card (EHIC), valid in Switzerland, to be requested from your health insurance fund a few weeks before departure.
- Our drivers drive for a maximum of 3 hours, then take a 30-minute break, day and night.
- Supervision is provided by the accompanying teachers; each pupil signs a code of conduct based on the school rules (no alcohol for minors or on the coach, including beer, which is legal from 16 in Switzerland, no drug use, punctuality and compliance with instructions, strict timekeeping for boats and mountain trains).
- The pupil list and rooming list are entered in the school's online area (Excel import possible); rooms are allocated according to your instructions.
- Recommended period: May to June and September, as the Pilatus cogwheel railway only runs from about May to November. Switzerland uses the Swiss franc (CHF), but bank cards are accepted almost everywhere; sockets are different (an adapter is recommended) and mobile roaming is not always included in European plans. Prices are high: for lunches, allow a budget of around CHF 15–20 per pupil per day; on request, the hotel can provide packed lunches.
