Lucerne and its lake, Milan and its Duomo, Lakes Como and Maggiore, the Simplon Pass and Bern: a grand loop between the Alps and dolce vita.

This final-year trip traces a grand loop through the Alps. Pupils discover Lucerne and sail on Lake Lucerne, cross the Gotthard to Lugano and Italy, visit Milan, take the boat to Bellagio on Lake Como and to the Borromean Islands on Lake Maggiore. The way back crosses the Simplon Pass and follows the Rhône valley to Lake Geneva and Chillon Castle, before a stop in Bern, the federal capital. The departure date and time are set with your school in the quote. The journey is made in daytime, with a 30-minute break every 3 hours of driving, and the coach stays with the group on site.

Good to know

  • Valid identity card or passport, signed parental consent form for each pupil under 18 and European Health Insurance Card (EHIC), to be requested from your health insurance fund a few weeks before departure. For Switzerland, an identity card is sufficient; the currency there is the Swiss franc (bank cards and often euros accepted).
  • Our drivers drive for a maximum of 3 hours, then take a 30-minute break, day and night. The two longest days, on the way out and on the way back (about 600 to 700 km), are driven by two drivers taking turns; the other stages are short and there is no night driving.
  • Supervision is provided by the accompanying teachers; each pupil signs a code of conduct based on the school rules (no alcohol for minors or on the coach, no drug use, punctuality and compliance with instructions during free time, swimming only in authorised places and under the teachers’ supervision).
  • The pupil list and rooming list are entered in the school's online area (Excel import possible); rooms are allocated according to your instructions.
  • Recommended period: May to the end of September, when the Pilatus railway runs (generally from May to November), the Simplon Pass is clear and the lake boats follow their summer timetable. The “Last Supper” must be booked several months in advance and clothing covering shoulders and knees is required at the Duomo. Switzerland is more expensive than Belgium: for lunches allow around €15–20 per pupil per day in Switzerland and €10–15 in Italy (euro).
