Hanseatic Gdańsk, rebuilt Warsaw and Kraków: a journey through Polish history, from Solidarność to the Auschwitz-Birkenau memorial.

This trip crosses Poland from north to south and a century of European history. In Gdańsk, pupils discover the Hanseatic city, Westerplatte, where the Second World War began, and the Solidarność shipyards. They then visit Malbork Castle, Warsaw, destroyed and rebuilt, and Kraków, with Wawel, Kazimierz and the Wieliczka Salt Mine. The visit to the Auschwitz-Birkenau memorial is prepared with the teachers. An overnight stop in Germany on the way out and back avoids any night driving. The departure date and time are set with your school in the quote. The journey is made by day, with a 30-minute break every 3 hours of driving, and the coach stays with the group on site.

Good to know

  • Valid identity card or passport, signed parental consent form for each pupil under 18 and European Health Insurance Card (EHIC), to be requested from your health insurance fund a few weeks before departure; an identity card is enough for Germany and Poland.
  • Our drivers drive for a maximum of 3 hours, then take a 30-minute break, day and night. Given the distance (about 1,250 km to Gdańsk), an overnight stop is planned in Germany on the way out and back and two drivers take turns at the wheel: no night driving.
  • Supervision is provided by the accompanying teachers; each pupil signs a code of conduct based on the school rules (no alcohol for minors or on the coach, no drug use, punctuality and compliance with instructions during free time, appropriate dress and a dignified, quiet attitude at the Auschwitz-Birkenau memorial).
  • The pupil list and rooming list are entered in the school's online area (Excel import possible); rooms are allocated according to your instructions.
  • Recommended period: May to June or September, when the Baltic is at its most pleasant; guided visits to Auschwitz-Birkenau (free admission, paid guide) must be booked several months in advance with the group’s list of names, and the museum recommends a minimum age of 14. Poland uses the złoty (PLN): bank cards are accepted almost everywhere. Lunches are not included: allow around €10–15 per pupil per day (often less in Poland).
