Biarritz's waves, San Sebastián and its pintxos, Bilbao's Guggenheim and La Rhune: the Basque Country on both sides of the border.

This final-year trip settles the group on the Basque coast, between ocean and mountains. Pupils discover Biarritz, its Grande Plage and the Rocher de la Vierge, can try surfing and stroll through Petit Bayonne, then cross into Spain: La Concha bay and the old town of San Sebastián, Bilbao and its titanium Guggenheim Museum. The stay ends with La Rhune, the region’s emblematic mountain, and the harbour of Saint-Jean-de-Luz. The departure date and time are set with your school in the quote. The journey is made in daytime, with a 30-minute break every 3 hours of driving, and the coach stays with the group on site.

Good to know

  • Valid identity card or passport, signed parental consent form for each pupil under 18 and European Health Insurance Card (EHIC), to be requested from your health insurance fund a few weeks before departure.
  • Our drivers drive for a maximum of 3 hours, then take a 30-minute break, day and night. As the journey exceeds 900 km (about 1,050 km), an overnight stop is planned near Tours on the way out and on the way back: no night driving.
  • Supervision is provided by the accompanying teachers; each pupil signs a code of conduct based on the school rules (no alcohol for minors or on the coach, no drug use, punctuality and compliance with instructions during free time, swimming and surfing only on supervised beaches, with the instructors or teachers, as the ocean currents are dangerous).
  • The pupil list and rooming list are entered in the school's online area (Excel import possible); rooms are allocated according to your instructions.
  • Recommended period: April to June or September and October; La Rhune cog railway generally runs from mid-March to early November. The Guggenheim Museum is normally closed on Mondays outside the high season: the Bilbao day is scheduled accordingly, with a group booking. The ocean is still cool in spring, but surf schools provide wetsuits. France and Spain use the euro; lunches are not included: allow around €10–15 per pupil per day (€2–4 per pintxo).
