Honfleur, the D-Day beaches, Mont-Saint-Michel, Saint-Malo, Dinan and Cap Fréhel: six days of remembrance, sea and heritage.

This trip follows the coast from Normandy to Brittany. Pupils stop at the harbour of Honfleur, walk on the D-Day beaches, from Arromanches to Omaha Beach and the American Cemetery, then climb Mont-Saint-Michel. In Brittany, they walk around the ramparts of Saint-Malo, stroll through the medieval lanes of Dinan and discover the cliffs of Cap Fréhel, before a last morning in Rouen. A trip rich in history and great seascapes. The departure date and time are set with your school in the quote. The journey is made during the day, with a 30-minute break every 3 hours of driving, and the coach stays with the group on site.

  • Pointe du Hoc and its bomb craters, stormed by the US Rangers (free access).
  • Dinner and supervised evening.

Day 3: Mont-Saint-Michel and arrival in Saint-Malo

  • Rooms vacated after breakfast, drive to Mont-Saint-Michel (about 1¾ hours) and shuttle to the foot of the rock.
  • Climb up the Grande Rue and the ramparts, with views over the bay and its tides, among the strongest in Europe.
  • Visit to the abbey and its cloister perched high above the bay (on request).
  • Free lunch, then drive to Saint-Malo (about 1 hour).
  • Check-in at the accommodation for two nights, dinner and supervised evening.

Day 4: Saint-Malo and Dinan

  • Walk around the ramparts of Saint-Malo intra-muros, the corsair city, with views of the islets and forts of the bay.
  • At low tide, walk across to the island of Grand Bé and the tomb of Chateaubriand.
  • Visit to the Grand Aquarium of Saint-Malo (on request).
  • Free lunch, then afternoon in Dinan: its ramparts, the Rue du Jerzual and the old port on the Rance.
  • Dinner and supervised evening.

Day 5: Cap Fréhel and an overnight stop near Rouen

  • Rooms vacated after breakfast and drive to Cap Fréhel (about 45 min): a path along the top of the pink sandstone cliffs, more than 70 m above the sea.
  • Visit to Fort La Latte, a castle facing the sea (on request).
  • Free lunch, then drive to the Rouen area (about 4½ hours).
  • Check-in at the hotel for the overnight stop, dinner and last supervised evening.

Day 6: Rouen and return to your school

  • Departure after breakfast and a walk through old Rouen: the Notre-Dame Cathedral painted by Monet, the Gros-Horloge and the Place du Vieux-Marché, where Joan of Arc was burned.
  • Free lunch, then daytime drive back to Belgium (about 3½ to 4½ hours depending on your region).
  • Regular stops: a 30-minute break every 3 hours of driving.
  • Arrival at your school in the evening.

Good to know

  • Valid identity card or passport, signed parental consent form for each pupil under 18 and European Health Insurance Card (EHIC), to be requested from your health insurance fund a few weeks before departure.
  • Our drivers drive for a maximum of 3 hours, then take a 30-minute break, day and night. To avoid an overly long day on the road from Brittany, an overnight stop is planned on the way back in the Rouen area.
  • Supervision is provided by the accompanying teachers; each pupil signs a code of conduct based on the school rules (no alcohol for minors or on the coach, no drug use, punctuality and compliance with instructions during free time, appropriate dress and silence in the military cemeteries, no venturing onto the foreshore or into the bay without the teachers' permission because of the tides, care near the cliff edges).
  • The pupil list and rooming list are entered in the school's online area (Excel import possible); rooms are allocated according to your instructions.
  • Recommended period: April to June or September, avoiding the very busy commemorations around 6 June; the Saint-Malo programme is adapted to the tide times. Mont-Saint-Michel Abbey is free for under-26s resident in the European Union, with a group booking. Bring a waterproof windcheater and good shoes; lunches are not included, allow around €10–15 per pupil per day (crêperies are a good option).
