The Last Post at the Menin Gate, the D-Day beaches, Verdun and the Struthof camp: understanding both World Wars on the ground.
This trip takes pupils to the great memorial sites of both World Wars. In Ypres, they discover trench warfare in Flanders and attend the Last Post beneath the Menin Gate; in Normandy, they walk on Omaha Beach and at Pointe du Hoc; in Verdun, they explore the 1916 battlefield and the Douaumont Ossuary; in Alsace, they visit the former Natzweiler-Struthof concentration camp. An ideal way to take history lessons further. The departure date and time are set with your school in the quote. The journey is made by day, with a 30-minute break every 3 hours of driving, and the coach stays with the group throughout the tour.

Good to know
- Valid identity card or passport, signed parental consent form for each pupil under 18 and European Health Insurance Card (EHIC), to be requested from your health insurance fund a few weeks before departure.
- Our drivers drive for a maximum of 3 hours, then take a 30-minute break, day and night. The tour changes accommodation at each stage to keep journeys short: the longest driving day (day 4, Normandy–Verdun) is made entirely by day.
- Supervision is provided by the accompanying teachers; each pupil signs a code of conduct based on the school rules (no alcohol for minors or on the coach, no drug use, punctuality and compliance with instructions, dignified and quiet behaviour in cemeteries, memorials and the former Struthof camp).
- The pupil list and rooming list are entered in the school’s online area (Excel import possible); rooms are allocated according to your instructions.
- Recommended period: March to June or September to November; avoid the week of 6 June in Normandy and the period around 11 November, which are very busy. Some sites close for a few weeks in winter: dates are checked when preparing the quote. Preparation in class greatly enriches the visit; bring good shoes and a raincoat. Lunches are not included: allow a budget of around €10–15 per pupil per day, or hotel packed lunches on request.
