Annecy's canals and a cruise on its lake, then the traboules of Old Lyon and Fourvière: a final-year trip between the Alps and the city.
This final-year trip begins on the shores of Lake Annecy, one of the cleanest lakes in Europe, with its old town criss-crossed by canals and mountains plunging into the water. It continues in Lyon, a UNESCO World Heritage city: pupils explore the traboules, secret passageways through buildings, climb up to Fourvière and its Roman theatres, and discover the silk workers’ Croix-Rousse. The drive is long, about 7 to 8 hours depending on your school, with two drivers if necessary. The departure date and time are set with your school in the quote; the journey is made by day, with a 30-minute break every 3 hours of driving, and the coach stays with the group throughout the stay.
Programme
Day 1: Departure from your school and arrival in Annecy
- Departure from your school early in the morning, at the agreed time, and daytime drive to the Alps (about 7 hours 30 minutes to 8 hours depending on your school, excluding breaks).
- Our drivers drive for a maximum of 3 hours, then take a 30-minute break, day and night.
- Free lunch on the way.
- Arrival in Annecy in the late afternoon, check-in at the accommodation for two nights, dinner and supervised evening.
Day 2: Annecy, the ‘Venice of the Alps’
- Walk through the old town: the Thiou canals, the Palais de l’Isle, the Pont des Amours and the Jardins de l’Europe.
- Guided cruise on Lake Annecy, facing the surrounding peaks.
- Free lunch, then visit to the Gorges du Fier, 15 minutes from Annecy, on walkways fixed to the rock face (on request).
- Supervised free time by the lake, then dinner and supervised evening.
Day 3: Drive to Lyon and Fourvière hill
- Rooms vacated after breakfast and drive to Lyon (about 1 hour 45 minutes).
- Free lunch in Old Lyon, a Renaissance quarter listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
- Discovery of the traboules, covered passageways linking streets through the courtyards of buildings.
- Climb to Fourvière: the Basilica of Notre-Dame (free admission), the view over the city and the Roman theatres (free access).
- Check-in at the accommodation in Lyon for two nights, dinner and supervised evening.
Day 4: Presqu’île, Croix-Rousse and Confluence
- Walk across the Presqu’île, from Place Bellecour to Place des Terreaux and the town hall.
- Climb to the Croix-Rousse, the hill of the canuts, the silk workers: its traboules and the Mur des Canuts, a huge trompe-l’œil mural.
- Free lunch, then visit to the Musée des Confluences, devoted to science and human societies (on request).
- Dinner and supervised evening.
Day 5: Return to your school
- Rooms vacated after breakfast, luggage loaded onto the coach.
- Departure in the morning and daytime drive back to Belgium (about 7 hours, excluding breaks).
- Free lunch on the way.
- Arrival at your school in the evening.
The price includes
- Coach transport from your school, with the coach at the group's disposal throughout the stay
- The services of one driver (two drivers if the journey requires it)
- 4 nights in a hotel or youth hostel (2 nights in Annecy and 2 nights in Lyon or their surroundings), rooms for 3 to 8 pupils and separate rooms for the accompanying staff
- Half board (breakfast and dinner), from dinner on day 1 to breakfast on day 5

Good to know
- Valid identity card or passport, signed parental consent form for each pupil under 18 and European Health Insurance Card (EHIC), to be requested from your health insurance fund a few weeks before departure.
- Our drivers drive for a maximum of 3 hours, then take a 30-minute break, day and night; given the length of the journey, two drivers take turns if necessary.
- Supervision is provided by the accompanying teachers; each pupil signs a code of conduct based on the school rules (no alcohol for minors or on the coach, no drug use, punctuality and compliance with instructions; the traboules run through inhabited buildings, so pupils pass through quietly and in small groups).
- The pupil list and rooming list are entered in the school's online area (Excel import possible); rooms are allocated according to your instructions.
- Recommended period: April to June and September–October; the Gorges du Fier and the lake cruises mainly operate from spring to autumn, and evenings are cool in the mountains, so bring a jacket. France uses the euro and the same electrical sockets as Belgium. Lunches are not included: allow a budget of around €10–15 per pupil per day; on request, the hotel can provide packed lunches.
