Edinburgh Castle and the Royal Mile, Arthur’s Seat, the Forth bridges, Glencoe and Loch Ness, via Durham and York: the great Scottish adventure.

This trip takes pupils to the far end of Great Britain. In Edinburgh, a UNESCO-listed capital, they walk the Royal Mile between castle and palace, climb Arthur’s Seat and discover the lanes that inspired the world of Harry Potter. A full day in the Highlands takes them via Stirling and the wild Glencoe valley to Loch Ness and its legends. The route passes through Durham on the way up and York on the way back, with an overnight stop in England in each direction and a Channel ferry crossing. The departure date and time are set with your school in the quote. The journey is made by day, with a 30-minute break every 3 hours of driving, and the coach stays with the group on site.

Good to know

  • A valid passport is compulsory for every pupil and member of staff (an identity card is not enough to enter the United Kingdom), along with an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) applied for online before departure; signed parental consent form for each pupil under 18 and European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). Pupils of other nationalities should check their own entry requirements.
  • Our drivers drive for a maximum of 3 hours, then take a 30-minute break, day and night. Given the distance (about 1,000 km between Calais and Edinburgh), two drivers take turns and an overnight stop in England is planned on the way out and on the way back: no night driving.
  • Supervision is provided by the accompanying teachers; each pupil signs a code of conduct based on the school rules (no alcohol for minors or on the coach, no drug use, punctuality and compliance with instructions during free time, care when crossing the road, as traffic drives on the left in the UK: look right first, and on the paths of Arthur’s Seat).
  • The pupil list and rooming list are entered in the school’s online area (Excel import possible); rooms are allocated according to your instructions.
  • Recommended period: May to June or September, when the days are long; apply for passports and ETAs at least two months before departure. Scottish weather changes quickly: bring a raincoat, warm clothes and walking shoes, plus insect repellent against midges in summer. The UK uses the pound sterling (bank cards are accepted almost everywhere) and sockets are type G (adapter needed). Lunches are not included: allow a budget of about £10 to £15 per pupil per day, or hotel packed lunches on request.
