Annecy’s old town and lake, then Chamonix facing Mont Blanc with the Aiguille du Midi or the Mer de Glace: the breathtaking Alps.
This final-year trip takes pupils to the heart of the French Alps. Based in Annecy, a town of canals on the shores of a strikingly blue lake, they spend a day in Chamonix, at the foot of Mont Blanc, the highest peak in Western Europe, to go up the Aiguille du Midi, at 3,842 m, or reach the Mer de Glace by rack railway. A cruise, panoramic views and outdoor activities complete the stay. The drive is long, about 8 hours depending on your school, with two drivers if necessary. The departure date and time are set with your school in the quote; the journey is made by day, with a 30-minute break every 3 hours of driving, and the coach stays with the group throughout the stay.
Programme
Day 1: Departure from your school and arrival in Annecy
- Departure from your school early in the morning, at the agreed time, and daytime drive to the Alps (about 7 hours 30 minutes to 8 hours depending on your school, excluding breaks).
- Our drivers drive for a maximum of 3 hours, then take a 30-minute break, day and night.
- Free lunch on the way.
- Arrival in Annecy in the late afternoon, check-in at the accommodation for four nights, dinner and supervised evening.
Day 2: Annecy and its lake
- Walk through the old town: the Thiou canals, the Palais de l’Isle, the Pont des Amours and the Jardins de l’Europe.
- Guided cruise on Lake Annecy, surrounded by mountains.
- Free lunch, then bike ride along the greenway on the west shore of the lake (on request).
- Supervised free time by the lake, then dinner and supervised evening.
Day 3: Chamonix, at the foot of Mont Blanc
- Drive to Chamonix (about 1 hour 15 minutes), with the first views of the Mont Blanc massif.
- Cable car ride up the Aiguille du Midi, at 3,842 m, facing Mont Blanc (on request).
- Or, as chosen by the school, rack railway from Montenvers to the Mer de Glace, the largest glacier in France, and its ice cave (on request).
- Free lunch, then supervised free time in the centre of Chamonix.
- Return to Annecy, dinner and supervised evening.
Day 4: Gorges du Fier, Col de la Forclaz and water sports
- Visit to the Gorges du Fier, 15 minutes from Annecy, on walkways fixed to the rock face (on request).
- Free lunch, then drive to the Col de la Forclaz (about 40 minutes), a paragliding take-off point with views over the whole lake.
- Stand-up paddle or kayak taster session on the lake with an instructor (on request).
- Return to the accommodation, dinner and last supervised evening.
Day 5: Return to your school
- Rooms vacated after breakfast, luggage loaded onto the coach.
- Early-morning departure and daytime drive back to Belgium (about 7 hours 30 minutes to 8 hours, excluding breaks).
- Free lunch on the way.
- Arrival at your school in the evening.
The price includes
- Coach transport from your school, with the coach at the group's disposal throughout the stay
- The services of one driver (two drivers if the journey requires it)
- 4 nights in a hotel or youth hostel in or around Annecy, rooms for 3 to 8 pupils and separate rooms for the accompanying staff
- Half board (breakfast and dinner), from dinner on day 1 to breakfast on day 5

Good to know
- Valid identity card or passport, signed parental consent form for each pupil under 18 and European Health Insurance Card (EHIC), to be requested from your health insurance fund a few weeks before departure.
- Our drivers drive for a maximum of 3 hours, then take a 30-minute break, day and night; given the length of the journey, two drivers take turns if necessary.
- Supervision is provided by the accompanying teachers; each pupil signs a code of conduct based on the school rules (no alcohol for minors or on the coach, no drug use, punctuality and compliance with instructions; in the mountains, pupils stay in marked areas and follow the instructions of the instructors and lift staff).
- The pupil list and rooming list are entered in the school's online area (Excel import possible); rooms are allocated according to your instructions.
- Recommended period: May to June and September; it is cold at the Aiguille du Midi even in summer (warm clothes, sunglasses and sun cream are essential), ascents depend on the weather and are booked in advance, and the altitude is not recommended for pupils with heart or breathing problems. France uses the euro and the same electrical sockets as Belgium. Lunches are not included: allow a budget of around €12–15 per pupil per day; on request, the hotel can provide packed lunches.
