Amsterdam’s canals, then the ferry to Texel for two days of cycling among dunes, beaches and Ecomare’s seals: city and wild nature.

A trip in two parts: first Amsterdam, its Golden Age canals and the Jordaan district, then the ferry crossing to Texel, the largest of the Wadden Islands. There, pupils hop on a bike to ride through the dunes of the national park, meet the seals cared for at Ecomare and ride on to the red lighthouse in the north of the island. The date and time of departure are set with your school in the quote; the journey is made by day, with a 30-minute break every 3 hours of driving, and the coach stays with the group on site, ferry included.

  • Supervision is provided by the accompanying teachers; each pupil signs a code of conduct based on the school rules (no alcohol for minors or on the coach, no drug use, coffee shops excluded from the programme and prohibited for under-18s, punctuality and compliance with instructions). On Texel, pupils ride in single file on the cycle paths and stay on the marked paths in the dunes, a protected nature area.

  • Recommended period: April to June or September, to enjoy cycling and the long days; on the island the wind often blows hard, so bring a windbreaker, a raincoat and warm clothes. The Netherlands uses the euro; lunches are not included (budget of around €10–15 per pupil per day, hotel packed lunches on request for the cycling day).
