Reims in one day: the cathedral where the kings of France were crowned, the Saint-Remi Basilica and a champagne cellar with tasting.
Reims is the city of coronations: most kings of France were crowned in its Gothic cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Its façade has more than two thousand statues, including the famous Smiling Angel, and its stained glass combines ancient windows with works by Chagall. Nearby, the Saint-Remi Basilica holds the tomb of the bishop who baptised Clovis. In the afternoon, your group goes down into the crayères, galleries dug into the chalk where champagne ages, for a visit followed by a tasting. The coach takes you from one site to the next: no long walks, and a return at a reasonable hour.
