Arras and Lens in one day: Baroque squares and belfry, the 1917 Wellington Quarry and the Gallery of Time at Louvre-Lens.

Arras surprises with its two great squares lined with 155 Flemish-style façades, rebuilt identically after the Great War. Beneath the town, the Wellington Quarry tells how thousands of British and New Zealand soldiers waited there for the offensive of April 1917; the visit is made with a guide and an audio guide, with access by lift. In the afternoon, Louvre-Lens presents masterpieces of the Louvre, from Antiquity to the 19th century, in its Gallery of Time, a vast, bright space on one level. The day alternates emotion and beauty, with short journeys between the sites.

Programme

  • Morning departure from the pick-up point of your choice, at a time suited to your region.
  • Comfortable coach journey with breaks: our drivers drive for a maximum of 3 hours, then take a 30-minute break.
  • Arrival in Arras in the late morning and guided tour of the Wellington Quarry, accessible by lift (on request).
  • Free time on the Grand-Place and Place des Héros, at the foot of the UNESCO-listed belfry.
  • Lunch booked in a restaurant in Arras, with a taste of local andouillette or the gingerbread “cœur d’Arras” (on request).
  • Short drive to Lens and free visit of the Gallery of Time at Louvre-Lens.
  • Guided tour of the Gallery of Time, adapted to the pace of the group (on request).
  • Return in the evening to your region.

Good to know

  • Valid identity card and European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) for each participant.
  • Departure and return times adapted to your group’s pick-up point; price on quotation, from 20 participants.
  • Walking level: easy (Wellington Quarry with lift, Louvre-Lens on one level; about 12 °C underground).
  • Louvre-Lens is closed on Tuesdays; closing days of the Wellington Quarry (notably in January) to be checked.

Cancellation and refund protection

Optional, to be taken when booking: you can cancel without giving a reason and get the base price of the trip back, provided your request reaches us at least 48 hours before departure for a day trip, 7 days before if admission tickets are included, 14 days before for a trip with overnight stays. Price: 7 % of the trip up to €1,000, 5 % from €1,001 to €2,500, 3.5 % above.
