Gentle Amiens: the largest Gothic cathedral in France, a boat ride through the hortillonnages floating gardens and the Saint-Leu quarter.
Amiens is a lovely surprise less than three hours from Brussels. Its Notre-Dame Cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is the largest in France by interior volume and stuns with the delicacy of its sculptures. At its foot, the Saint-Leu quarter lines up colourful houses along the canals, ideal for lunch on a terrace. In the afternoon, an electric boat glides silently through the hortillonnages, floating gardens cultivated since the Middle Ages, with no effort required from participants. A peaceful day at the pace of the water.
