Four days between Poznań, cradle of Poland, and Toruń, Copernicus’s birthplace: history, astronomy and tasty workshops.
Poznań is one of the cradles of the Polish state: the country’s history begins around its Cathedral Island in the 10th century, with the baptism of Duke Mieszko I in 966. On the Old Market Square, pupils wait for noon to see the two mechanical goats on the Renaissance town hall butt heads, then learn how St Martin’s croissant, a local speciality, is made. In Toruń, a Gothic town listed by UNESCO, they enter the house where Nicolaus Copernicus was born in 1473, the astronomer who placed the Sun at the centre of the universe. The ruins of the Teutonic Knights’ castle and the leaning tower complete the visit. A workshop at the Living Gingerbread Museum lets everyone get hands-on. This trip is ideal for pupils aged 10 to 14, for history, science and general studies.
