Six days in the Basque Country: Bilbao’s Guggenheim, the Bizkaia Bridge, San Sebastián’s bay and Gernika, city of peace.

The Spanish Basque Country offers pupils a trip full of contrasts, combining culture, industry and remembrance. In Bilbao, a former industrial city transformed by Frank Gehry’s Guggenheim Museum, they also see the Bizkaia Bridge, the world’s oldest transporter bridge and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. San Sebastián and its Bay of La Concha show another side of the Atlantic coast. In Gernika, bombed on 26 April 1937 during the Spanish Civil War, the Peace Museum and the tree of the Basque assemblies invite reflection on war, democracy and reconciliation. The trip suits secondary pupils in history, citizenship, Spanish and art.
