Seven days in Catalonia: Gaudí’s architecture, the old town, science at CosmoCaixa and the monastery of Montserrat.
Barcelona is an open-air lesson in art and history. Pupils discover the architecture of Antoni Gaudí, from the Sagrada Família, under construction since 1882, to Park Güell, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In the Gothic Quarter and the Museum of the History of Catalonia, they trace the city from Roman Barcino to modern times, while CosmoCaixa and its recreated Amazon rainforest feed into science lessons. A day at Montserrat, with its monastery clinging to the mountain, rounds off the trip. It is particularly suited to secondary school pupils studying Spanish, history, art or geography.
Programme
Day 1: Departure for Catalonia
- Departure from your school at the agreed time, in the late afternoon.
- Overnight journey with two drivers on board: our drivers drive for no more than 3 hours, then take a 30-minute break, by day and by night.
Day 2: From La Rambla to the Gothic Quarter
- Arrival in Barcelona in the late morning.
- Walk along La Rambla and through the Boqueria market.
- Guided tour of the Gothic Quarter and the cathedral (on request).
- Check-in at the accommodation, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: Gaudí and Modernisme
- Breakfast at the accommodation.
- Visit to the Sagrada Família basilica with audio guide (on request).
- Walk along Passeig de Gràcia, past Casa Batlló and Casa Milà (La Pedrera).
- Visit to Park Güell (on request).
- Dinner and overnight stay at the accommodation.
Day 4: Barceloneta and the harbour on foot
- Breakfast at the accommodation.
- A day on foot without the coach: compulsory rest day for the drivers.
- Visit to the Museum of the History of Catalonia (on request).
- Stroll along the Barceloneta seafront and time on the beach.
- Dinner and overnight stay at the accommodation.
Day 5: Science and Montjuïc hill
- Breakfast at the accommodation.
- Visit to the CosmoCaixa science museum and its flooded forest (on request).
- Visit to the Fundació Joan Miró (on request).
- View over the city and harbour from Montjuïc hill.
- Dinner and overnight stay at the accommodation.
Day 6: Montserrat and departure
- Breakfast and check-out.
- Drive to the Montserrat massif and up to the monastery.
- Guided tour of the monastery and the basilica of the Black Madonna (La Moreneta) (on request).
- Departure in the afternoon.
- Overnight return journey with two drivers and regular breaks (no more than 3 hours of driving, then a 30-minute break).
Day 7: Return to Belgium
- Arrival back at school in the morning.

Good to know
- A valid identity card (Kids-ID for children under 12) and parental consent for travel abroad are required; please also bring the EHIC (European Health Insurance Card).
- Times are adapted to your school, and pupils are supervised by their teachers.
- Visits to the Sagrada Família and Park Güell must be booked well in advance for a fixed time; bring a cap, sun cream and a water bottle.
