Ten days in Andalusia: the Mosque of Córdoba, the Alcázar of Seville, the Alhambra of Granada and the Doñana wetlands.

This grand tour introduces pupils to eight centuries of al-Andalus, Muslim Spain, and its encounter with the Christian world. In Córdoba, the Mosque-Cathedral tells this story in stone, while in Seville the cathedral, the Giralda and the Real Alcázar show how cultures exchanged ideas. In Granada, the Alhambra, the last Nasrid stronghold until 1492, is a high point of Islamic art, and the Parque de las Ciencias adds a scientific angle. A day in Doñana National Park, one of Europe’s largest wetlands, opens the trip up to the natural sciences. The tour is aimed at upper secondary pupils in Spanish, history, religious studies and geography.

Programme

Day 1: Departure for Spain

  • Departure from your school at the agreed time, in the late afternoon.
  • Overnight journey with two drivers on board: our drivers drive for no more than 3 hours, then take a 30-minute break, by day and by night.

Day 2: Across Spain

  • Journey with two drivers on board and regular stops: our drivers drive for no more than 3 hours, then take a 30-minute break.
  • Dinner and overnight stop in the Madrid area.

Day 3: Córdoba

  • Breakfast and check-out.
  • Drive to Andalusia and arrival in Córdoba.
  • Guided tour of the Mosque-Cathedral (on request).
  • Walk through the Judería, the old Jewish quarter, and across the Roman bridge.
  • Check-in at the accommodation, dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4: From Córdoba to Seville

  • Breakfast and check-out.
  • Drive to Seville.
  • Discovering Plaza de España and María Luisa Park.
  • Check-in at the accommodation, dinner and overnight stay.

Day 5: Seville on foot

  • Breakfast at the accommodation.
  • A day on foot without the coach: compulsory rest day for the drivers.
  • Visit to the cathedral and climb up the Giralda (on request).
  • Visit to the Real Alcázar (on request).
  • Walk through the Santa Cruz quarter, then along the Guadalquivir to the Torre del Oro.
  • Flamenco taster session (flamenco is on UNESCO’s intangible heritage list) (on request).
  • Dinner and overnight stay at the accommodation.

Day 6: Doñana National Park

  • Breakfast at the accommodation.
  • Drive to Doñana National Park, one of Europe’s largest wetlands.
  • Guided off-road vehicle tour of the park (on request).
  • Stop in the village of El Rocío and birdwatching on the marshes.
  • Dinner and overnight stay at the accommodation.

Day 7: Granada and the Albaicín

  • Breakfast and check-out.
  • Drive to Granada.
  • Walk through the Albaicín up to the Mirador de San Nicolás, facing the Alhambra.
  • Visit to the Royal Chapel, burial place of the Catholic Monarchs (on request).
  • Check-in at the accommodation, dinner and overnight stay.

Day 8: The Alhambra and science

  • Breakfast at the accommodation.
  • Guided tour of the Alhambra and the Generalife gardens (on request).
  • Visit to the Parque de las Ciencias, Granada’s science museum (on request).
  • Dinner and overnight stay at the accommodation.

Day 9: Journey to France

  • Breakfast and check-out.
  • Journey with two drivers on board and regular stops: our drivers drive for no more than 3 hours, then take a 30-minute break.
  • Dinner and overnight stop in south-west France.

Day 10: Return to Belgium

  • Breakfast and check-out.
  • Return journey with two drivers and regular breaks (no more than 3 hours of driving, then a 30-minute break).
  • Arrival back at school in the evening.

Good to know

  • A valid identity card (Kids-ID for children under 12) and parental consent for travel abroad are required; please also bring the EHIC (European Health Insurance Card).
  • Times are adapted to your school, and pupils are supervised by their teachers.
  • Alhambra tickets are named and limited: book several months ahead with the list of pupils; it is already very hot from May, so bring a cap, sun cream and water.

Cancellation and refund protection
