5 gourmet days in Emilia: Parma and its cathedral, a Parmesan dairy, Parma ham and Modena, home of balsamic vinegar.
Parma is an elegant, peaceful city, ideal for a group of seniors: its flat centre is easy to explore on foot, between the cathedral with its dome painted by Correggio and the pink-marble baptistery. Emilia is also the land of Italy's great food products, and this trip celebrates them: an early-morning visit to a Parmigiano Reggiano dairy, Parma ham in the hills of Langhirano, then traditional balsamic vinegar at a producer in Modena. Modena itself charms with its Romanesque cathedral, the Ghirlandina tower and Piazza Grande, all listed by UNESCO. Visits stay short and are broken up by seated lunches, and your 3-star hotel on half board welcomes you for two nights in Parma.
Programme
Day 1: Departure and overnight stopover (central Switzerland)
- Morning departure from the place of your choice.
- Journey with regular breaks: our drivers drive for 3 hours at most, then take a 30-minute break.
- Late-afternoon arrival at the stopover hotel (central Switzerland), dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Journey to Parma
- Breakfast, then drive via the Gotthard and the Po plain, with regular breaks.
- Seated lunch on the way (on request).
- Arrival in Parma in the afternoon and check-in at the hotel for 2 nights.
- Stroll through the centre: Piazza Garibaldi, cathedral square, cathedral and baptistery.
- Dinner at the hotel.
Day 3: Parmesan, Parma ham and Modena
- Early-morning visit to a Parmigiano Reggiano dairy, with tasting (on request).
- Drive to the hills of Langhirano and Parma ham tasting at a producer (on request).
- Lunch of Emilian specialities (on request).
- In the afternoon, Modena: cathedral, Ghirlandina tower and Piazza Grande.
- Visit to an acetaia and tasting of traditional balsamic vinegar (on request).
- Return to Parma and dinner at the hotel.
Day 4: The Teatro Farnese, then journey to the stopover (central Switzerland)
- Breakfast, then guided tour of the Pilotta palace and its wooden Teatro Farnese (on request).
- Free time in the centre for some last gourmet shopping.
- Return journey with regular breaks: our drivers drive for 3 hours at most, then take a 30-minute break.
- Late-afternoon arrival at the stopover hotel (central Switzerland), dinner and overnight stay.
Day 5: Return to Belgium
- Breakfast, then return journey with regular breaks.
- Evening return to your home area.

Good to know
- Valid identity card and European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) for each participant. Bring enough of your usual medication.
- Departure and return times adapted to your group's pick-up point; trip offered from March to November, dates to be checked each year. From 20 participants, price on quotation.
- Walking level: easy (short walks, some cobbled lanes); a meeting time at the coach is set each day with the driver. Wheelchair users or guests with reduced mobility: please tell us when booking.
- Currency: euro in Italy, Swiss franc during the stopover nights in Switzerland. Bring comfortable clothes for the journey and sun cream.
