Four days in Franconia: the Imperial Castle, the Nuremberg Trials courtroom, the Nazi rally grounds and Würzburg.
Nuremberg spans the whole of German history, from the Middle Ages to the 20th century. Its Imperial Castle overlooks an old town where the painter Albrecht Dürer lived. The Nazi regime held its party rallies here, and pupils discover their monumental remains before learning, at the Memorium Nuremberg Trials in Courtroom 600, how the main Nazi leaders were tried in 1945–1946. The Germanisches Nationalmuseum and the railway museum, linked to Germany’s first railway line opened in 1835 between Nuremberg and Fürth, complete the trip. It suits history, citizenship and law lessons for pupils aged 15 to 18.
Programme
Day 1: Journey to Nuremberg
- Departure from your school at the agreed time.
- Coach journey with a 30-minute break after at most 3 hours of driving.
- Arrival in Nuremberg in the afternoon.
- Guided tour of the Imperial Castle (Kaiserburg) (on request).
- Dinner and overnight stay at the accommodation.
Day 2: Nazi rallies and the trials
- Breakfast at the accommodation.
- Walk on the former Nazi Party Rally Grounds: the Zeppelin Tribune and the unfinished Congress Hall.
- Visit to the Documentation Centre Nazi Party Rally Grounds (on request).
- Visit to the Memorium Nuremberg Trials and Courtroom 600 (on request).
- Dinner and overnight stay at the accommodation.
Day 3: Museums and the old town
- Breakfast at the accommodation.
- Visit to the Germanisches Nationalmuseum (on request).
- Visit to the DB Museum (railway museum) (on request).
- Walk through the old town: Main Market, the Beautiful Fountain and Albrecht Dürer’s House.
- Dinner and overnight stay at the accommodation.
Day 4: Würzburg and return
- Breakfast at the accommodation.
- Drive to Würzburg.
- Visit to the Würzburg Residence, a baroque palace listed by UNESCO (on request).
- Coach journey with a 30-minute break after at most 3 hours of driving.
- Return to school in the evening.
