5 days between Slovenia and Italy: Nova Gorica and Gorizia, the tomb of Charles X, the Brda vineyards and the emerald Soča at Kobarid.
Separated by a border drawn in 1947, Nova Gorica on the Slovenian side and Gorizia on the Italian side now form a single town, crossed on foot via Transalpina Square. Your group discovers both towns, Gorizia Castle and Kostanjevica monastery, where Charles X, the last king of France, and several members of the Bourbon family are buried. One day is devoted to Goriška Brda, hills of vines and cherry trees with hilltop villages, including a wine tasting. You also travel up the Soča valley, a river with emerald waters, to Kobarid and its First World War museum. Two drivers take turns on the way out and back, and a single hotel welcomes you for 4 nights.
Programme
Day 1: Drive to Nova Gorica
- Early-morning departure from the pick-up point of your choice, with two drivers taking turns.
- Regular breaks: our drivers drive for a maximum of 3 hours, then take a 30-minute break.
- Drive through Germany and Austria, lunch at leisure on the way.
- Evening arrival in Nova Gorica, check-in for 4 nights and dinner.
Day 2: Nova Gorica and Gorizia
- Visit of Kostanjevica monastery and the Bourbon crypt (on request).
- Walk to Transalpina Square, straddling the border.
- Guided tour of Gorizia and its castle (on request).
- Lunch in Gorizia old town (on request).
- Back to the hotel, dinner.
Day 3: The Brda hills
- Coach excursion to Goriška Brda.
- Stroll through the fortified village of Šmartno.
- Stop at the Gonjače lookout tower and its view over the vineyards (on request).
- Lunch with wine tasting at a Brda winegrower’s (on request).
- Back to the hotel in mid-afternoon, dinner.
Day 4: The Soča valley and Kobarid
- Drive along the Soča via Kanal and Tolmin.
- Visit of the Kobarid Museum devoted to the Isonzo Front (on request).
- Stop at Napoleon’s Bridge over the Soča.
- Lunch of Soča trout (on request).
- Back to the hotel, farewell dinner.
Day 5: Return to Belgium
- Breakfast, then return drive with two drivers.
- Lunch at leisure on the way.
- Return to your area late in the evening.
