4 days in Upper Carniola: the old town of Škofja Loka, Kranj, Radovljica and its beekeeping museum, Kropa and Brezje basilica.
At the foot of the Julian Alps, Upper Carniola is the Slovenia of small medieval towns, onion-domed steeples and painted beehives. Your group stays 3 nights in the Kranj area and discovers Škofja Loka, one of the best-preserved old towns in the country, then the old town of Kranj, where the national poet France Prešeren lived. In Radovljica, the beekeeping museum displays the famous painted beehive panels, while the blacksmiths' village of Kropa and Brezje basilica complete the day. Distances on site are short and visits follow a gentle pace. Two drivers take turns on the outward and return journeys so that the long trip stays comfortable.
Programme
Day 1: Journey to Slovenia
- Early morning departure from the pick-up point of your choice, with two drivers on board.
- Route through Germany and Austria, then through the Karawanks tunnel.
- Regular breaks: our drivers drive for 3 hours at most, then take a 30-minute break.
- Coffee break on the way and free lunch at a service area or roadside restaurant.
- Arrival in the Kranj area in the evening and check-in at the hotel for 3 nights.
- Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 2: Škofja Loka and Kranj
- Breakfast at the hotel.
- Drive to Škofja Loka (about 20 minutes), one of the best-preserved medieval towns in Slovenia.
- Visit to Škofja Loka castle and museum (on request).
- Lunch in a restaurant (on request).
- In the afternoon, a walk through the old town of Kranj, built on a rocky spur, to the house of the poet Prešeren.
- Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 3: Radovljica, Kropa and Brezje
- Breakfast at the hotel.
- Drive to Radovljica (about 25 minutes) and its old square.
- Visit to the beekeeping museum and its painted beehive panels (on request).
- Demonstration of the decoration of traditional gingerbread hearts (on request).
- Lunch in a restaurant (on request).
- In the afternoon, Kropa, a blacksmiths' village, then Brezje basilica, Slovenia's great Marian shrine.
- Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 4: Return to Belgium
- Breakfast at the hotel.
- Morning departure with two drivers on board.
- Regular breaks: our drivers drive for 3 hours at most, then take a 30-minute break.
- Return to your region late in the evening.
